Title IX

Program Overview

The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy will not discriminate against anyone on the basis of sex in its educational programs or activities, in admission to its educational programs or activities, or in employment policies and practices in accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.  Inquiries regarding compliance with Title IX may be directed to the Title IX Coordinator.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

Please be advised that the U.S. Department of Education's OCR is conducting a comprehensive review of the Department's regulation implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.  Once changes are finalized, The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy will update its' policies and procedures according to the new regulation.  

Reporting Title IX Violations
The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy does not tolerate or condone acts of sexual or gender-based harassment.  Any student, staff member, contractor, or volunteer who believes that he or she has been subjected to sexual or gender-based harassment, any parent of such a student, or any student who believes that another student is being subjected to sexual or gender-based harassment should immediately report the harassment to the Superintendent Dr. Jason M. Wray - jwray@prbla.org or the Title IX Coordinator: Mr. Sylvester Pittman - spittman@ prbla.org.

The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy is committed to conducting a prompt investigation of any reports involving a complaint of sexual harassment.  Counseling and educational resources will be available to students and staff who have alleged harassment and to students and staff accused of sexual or gender-based harassment.  Students or staff found to have engaged in acts of harassment or other acts that create a hostile environment may be disciplined including, if circumstances warrant, suspension or expulsion for students, employment termination for staff.  The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy encourages students, parents, and staff to work together to prevent sexual and gender-based harassment.

Filing a Formal Complaint
Any employee who has knowledge of a possible Title IX Violation involving a student or staff member will immediately report the incident to his or her immediate supervisor.  Any student, parent of a student, or employee wishing to file a Title IX Complaint must complete the Formal Title IX Grievance Form and submit it to the Title IX Coordinator or to the principal/immediate supervisor, who will then provide it to the Title IX Coordinator.
